Chapter 420 – Megan’s Idea
Megan looked at her mother, she wasn’t embarrassed, but she really didn’t have someone who had moved her heart inside Sky Water City, for her this matter was quite awkward.

If Megan had a good impression of him, then the madam would slowly inch their conversations in the next few days towards marrying Zhao Hai. If she agrees, then the matter would be easily solved.
The madam didn’t think that Megan would actually think of such a thing. Because there are a lot of factors involved, the madam thought Megan’s mind would be on other matters.
Megan saw her mother not speaking, she thought that her idea wasn’t received well. She quickly added, “Mom, if I marry mister Zhao Hai, he would be one of us. If he becomes family, then won’t the family stop sending people to deal with him?”
The madam recovered, she looked at Megan and sighed, “Megan, do you really want to? If you marry Zhao Hai, you would have to share him with Laura and Meg.”
Megan’s face turned red, but she still nodded firmly, “Yes mom, I’m thinking that if marry mister, it won’t just be because I have a favorable impression of him, but also for the sake of the Calci Family.”
The madam looked at Megan in shock, “Megan, why do you say that?”
Megan replied, “Mom, although I don’t know much about the family, I’m quite aware of its recent situation. Mister Zhao Hai has the ability and strength, if he became a member of the family, it would gain a lot from him. I know what our ancestors said about not marrying the family’s women for benefits, however, I have a genuine good impression towards mister. And now that the family is going to send a 9th rank after him, father wouldn’t be able to save him easily. The madam stared at Megan, she didn’t think that her daughter would say those words. She hugged Megan and said, “My little girl has grown up. Megan, what you said is indeed true. But do you really like Zhao Hai? If not, your father and I won’t support you in marrying him.”
Megan said in a soft voice, “Mother, I have decided.”[2]
The madam still felt as though she had something strange in her heart, she thought that Megan indeed had interest in Zhao Hai, but not to the point where she would want to marry him. And the reason behind Megan’s decision would be in a large part her consideration for the Calci Family. This would leave a bad taste in the madam’s mouth.
Fortunately, Megan has feelings for Zhao Hai, and its stronger that what she expected. The madam replied, “I’ve wronged you, my little Megan. But don’t worry, if Zhao Hai dares to treat you badly, then I’ll let Father tidy him up. Now that you have made your decision, we have a way to save him. I’ll go tell your father to send Zhao Hai a letter so that he can be safe as soon as possible.”
Megan nodded, then the madam stood up and left the room. Megan was left in the room staring, thinking about what she just said. Now that her words had finally caught up, her face immediately turned hot as though it was burning. She didn’t know what she just did, she just uttered those words unconsciously. Now, when she recalls her words, she couldn’t help but blush.
But no matter what, she has already decided. Changing it now would be impossible, and Megan didn’t think of changing it anyway. She just felt strange, she didn’t expect that she would actually get engaged.
At this point, the madam’s mood was very complicated. When she returned to their courtyard, she found Smith and told him about Megan’s situation.
Smith didn’t think that Megan would make her decision this quickly. While he felt relief, he was also angry at Zhao Hai. Smith didn’t know when Zhao Hai had unexpectedly captured her daughter’s heart.

He only wrote about how the family disagreed with his plan of reconciling with Zhao Hai and that they were prepared to send 9th rank experts. He also expressed that he has a plan to deal with the matter and that Zhao Hai needs to meet him at Sky Water City.
Zhao Hai didn’t expect the Calci Family to send 9th rank experts to deal with him. Although he didn’t fear the other party’s 9th rank expert, he also didn’t want to develop a mortal enmity with the Calci Family. If he does become enemies with the family, it would be disadvantageous to his future plans. The family might pressure Charlie, and Charlie might not want to offend the Calci Family in favor of him. Laura said, “When do we leave?”

Laura understood what Zhao Hai meant, if the Calci Family sends its 9th rank after them, the seas would certainly be unable to keep them safe. For a 9th rank expert, there was no need to use a ship to travel the sea, flying was enough.”
Laura nodded, “Alright, i’ll go inform Mu’en while you go see Trezebo.”
Zhao Hai nodded and immediately went out to give the Blood Hawk the ghost staff before releasing it. Then he went to look for Trezebo. At the same time, Laura took the carriage and headed towards Mu’en.

Why doesn’t he response to their attacks? I mean he can easily fuck up that 9th rank and want can they do then? Send more 9th ranks? He can kill them too! Until none is left and their brains finally understand that they fucked up. But nooo, suddenly a girl who hadn’t any interest in him has feelings out of nowhere and marries him? WTH?
He is literally america with nuclear weapons and everyone else is in the stone age…
His biggest priority is to establish trading partners and revive his clan. If he established a blood feud with the Calci family by killing a rank 9 expert, he’d not only burn the relationship he has with Smith but force the family to call in all of their connections and favors to send multiple rank 9s after him. He’s strong, but can only handle maybe 2 rank 9s at once before being forced to flee.
He already fled from one country. Fleeing again after revealing his strength to the world would have devastating impacts on his ability to be a merchant since his mere presence would be seen as the equivalent to a military invasion.
Overall, he can’t handle everything with force and make too many enemies or else he’ll be seen as a threat wherever he goes. Part of strength is knowing when not to fight.
Smith mentioned the family would lose most of the dark mages by attacking ZH. ZH could gather most of the dark mages and rule the organization. It was also mentioned earlier by Meg, they have enought power to fight an empire, not just a family or clan. Also, ZH can go back to the beastman prairie anytime he wants. Money? He could steal it from his enemies.
“…he’d not only burn the relationship he has with Smith…” Isn’t Smith doing this already? I mean, he is trying to save the “declared enemy” of the family and wed his daughter to him. Isn’t that backstabbing in the eyes of the family?
And I don’t know but it sounds like Smith will side with ZH or remain neutral, if ZH chooses to fight the family.
And to the problem with to many 9th rank ones:
First, it will be a bit difficult to send many at the same time, because they are friggin lazy and benefit-oriented, okay a distaster for the family may change their opinions, but I don’t know.
Second, ZH has 700.000 8th rank undeads! 700k! Okay, we know, a 8th rank isn’t much against a 9th rank, but this was a view of 5 or 10 8th ranks. So I guess 700k(!) can do some harm to 9th ranks. And how many 9th ranks does the family even have?
Third, ZH has many other trumps, like the mosquitos and the poison fog and all and he is omnipresent in an area of 10km!
So I guess he can go against some 9th ranks.
And wouldn’t he get more connections when he “destroys” a family and shows how reliable he is? The prince would get some new allies too, when he has a god of massacre on his side, wouldn’t he?
Yes. I do agree with you. Zhao hai is getting too scared nowadays and afraid to make an enemy. Before, he used to say i don’t care about the rest of the world yet now he’s just afraid from these people
But times changed.
He now have a family to protect and a clan/territory govern, the time he said F U world and now is comparing heaven and earth.
yea but dude this would be the equivalent of america nuking random countries everywhere it would literally piss off every single person in that world and hes not the only person with rank 9s dude like yea he can probably survive that first ambush with rank 9s but now imagine ten rank 9s come or even more every clan on that planet sends a rank 9 over he would drown in that and the only other option would be to live in the space permanently or retreat back to the swamp to defend himself and both those options suck ass so hes gonna have to make a compromise

It seems like author is already setting up stage for marriage, but it seems pretty lame. Mc has capability to deal with those rank 9 people so he should just do it. I mean they are clearly hostile and plant to kill him so he should just get rid of them. Not to mention it would be lot more interesting.

Why can’t the author let him establish himself even a little bit? What’s the point of having all that farming capacity & stuff when he can’t seem to be able to sell a darned thing before the vultures run him away. I am getting kind of angry. Also we had this good image of the C family & suddenly they turn into rotten product. Yeah, no, doesn’t sit so well with me. Their actions are too absurd & irrational. No long lived, powerful family would be so stupid. I almost wonder if they were infiltrated by the Church, their attitude is so destructive. The entire argument for destroying ZH, well, I don’t buy it. It smells of a cheap plot forced together to create enemies for the MC in a typical cultivation story fashion & to expand his “harem”. & that’s another 2 reasons to make me angry. I said this before, but I have gotten allergic to even the word harem. It is for me a cancer which destroys stories with potential. What I appreciated about this story is that rather than a h*** of empty headed boobs (I refuse to consider many of those characters as women, they are an insult to single cell organisms, never mind humans), the relationship is more equal, consensual, built on affection & respect. (I do not have anything against non monogamous relationships per se, as long as they are based on consent & respect.) This adding of Megan, although I sadly somehow expected it, well it’s done in the worst way possible & shifts the balance to h*** territory.
Also, didn’t they just decide this marriage on their own? Suddenly, this girl is served on a platter & everything should turn out ok? Can you hear my bitter, cynical laugh? Sigh… I’ll stop here, I am tired.
yea i feel that honestly like everytime an author takes even more than a second to describe a girl or calls her an empire toppling beauty or compares her to one of mcs girls im just like here we fucking go and like sometimes its so stupid like the girl is only there to make it harder for mc or to make mc fight new people or some shit and all the girls are airheads i wouldnt mind harem so much if it had the slightest amount of depth or even if the girls werent just trouble makers i dont get how authors struggle so much with romance cause like it can be done well and if done well is such an amazing tool but when its not its like a scar on the novel and on your point about the calci family i feel that it does seem idiotic but like sometimes greed and old age warps the mind you know even the greatest of heroes cant escape from times brutal grasps and also about how you said ancient families arent dumb sometimes theyre the dumbest in chinese they have a saying wealth only lasts three generations before the family rots because of nepotism and arrogance and i think this is exactly what they are seeing they are so used to power they think themselves almighty
Money & power corrupt. When you have more than is needed to have a good life, somehow greed joins the party & the vicious circle starts. Always wanting more, never satisfied. & those born with money & no purpose in life rot so easily. But these people can live long lives. It should come with some maturity at least. Oh well. I feel like the entire society of this world is rotten.

Yeah, I don’t know, this whole thing just feels very forced. I mean from the moment Megan was introduced, it just felt like the author was forcing another partner onto Zhao Hai. It would at least be better if the author gave her something to do, like say potion making like her mother, rather than just being bored with life.
Otherwise she’s going to be like Meg and become a forever-background character…which I think we can start nicknaming a meg(an) character 😛

I think that the author is going to show Zhao Hais military might is a fight against Boris not the dark mages.
And Megan having fellings for Zhao Hai i can see that happening, but right now it feels forced, and is more likly to be a naive girl thinking she loves somthing she only have a bit of intrest for.
After all Zhao Hai have brought drastic changes to her daily life.
The good imresions of the Calci family i have are only regarding Smith and his close family, we have not realy seen any other member exept the fifth brother that gave a bad impresion. Only after the talk about a 9th rank taking care of Zhao Hai did my view of the Calci family realy drop.
And i might actuly be the only one that actuly agres with the author that the best choise is to aviod killing 9th rank experts, if you want to hide your sthrenght.
Shold be somwhere around 1000000 8th rank undead, cai’er (a peak 9th rank or around that level), the undead in cairron swamp worshiping cai’er would probably also help, blood mosquitoes + their 9th rank, monkeys/gorillas with an 8th rank comperable to 9th rank and al the animals in the ranch that he can easily make into 8th rank undead if nesesary.
But if he shows the might of his undead army he will probably get most 8th and 9th rank expetts in the world after him to save the continent.
